Before the show, Troy and Doc (or Troy as Doc, depending on how you look at it), would go out into the audience and chat to people. Common phrases were: "It’s ok, I’m a doctor", "I’m made of felt", and a few hints at seeing people (women) privately.
Troy was not only adept at this, but managed every night to get the audience to warm to the performance, even before they stepped inside the venue. (Here seen on the second level at Trades Hall, outside the Evatt Room, which was our performance space)
Troy got a special mention in one of our reviews, he was that successful at the role. I particularly enjoyed watching him ‘embarass’ my cousin, her friend, and her friend’s daughter, for coming in late. The audience was in, we were waiting for the house to be closed by the FOH person stationed at our venue, and Troy managed to get everyone to tut at the latecomers.
It was lots of fun watching this part of the performance. Especially as people got to interact with Doc close up, and my family and friends got a kick out of seeing something I’d made, right in front of them (compared to being a metre away in the theatre).
And yes, that is me grinning behind Troy in the above photo.
