20 Aug 2007 Chapter Fourteen: Finalising the buildings
Read the previous post - starting the buildings - here.
Finalising the buildings was fairly easy. First I painted each building; I choose blue because I imagine this to be a futuristic colour, but I did do different shades of blue to make each building stand out. As you can see, each building also has a different pattern. Next, I bought some acetate (clear paper) and glued it over the buildings; this would give a nice glowing effect when the lights are on. (Which they are in this photo, but due to bad overhead lighting, the shot didn’t go well)
I had issues painting the tripod building, but eventually I got it to look ok.
Here’s a shot where you can see Building C better.
The lights actually run from: under the floors, up behind Building C, down under the floors, up behind building E, down under the floors, up behind building F, down under the floors, up behind Building D, down under the floors and up behind building B, where it goes under the floors for the last time. The Christmas lights were actually a ‘loop’, with the leads meeting up at the plug end.

Here is a shot of the buildings with the lights off, and you can see Building B a lot better.
It should be noted that none of the buildings were attached until last minute, once all the moveable parts were attached.
