20 Aug 2007 Chapter Twelve: The trees

Next I moved on to making my trees. … Actually this is where I changed my mind about the four lids. I had miscalculated on the position of the tallest tree - liking it somewhat between the park and house areas, I put it dead-centre of where a lid side would have to go. Having somewhat changed my mind already, I just decided to go ahead with one lid.
Anyway, the trees were easy. I drew out a basic shape for two tree skeletons (branches and trunk) on some paper, then transferred the design onto the card. I painted the trees a plain brown colour. Using some green material - scrunched up - I made some foliage, and glued it on. The reason behind making the branches is that I knew I had to make ‘burnt’ duplicates of the trees later, and this way my design could be used twice. I quite like the way the material looks like foliage.
And there’s a little Lego man; scale-wise, I very much made it up as I was going, but I did measure the height of the doorway against the people. I did underestimate the width though.
