17 Dec 2007 Oh, so tired and full
First, some admin: a big welcome to all the new US visitors. I’ve noticed a big leap yesterday in visitors hitting the main domain page (thepromptcopy.com), but no idea where you’re all coming from. So if you could give me a shout as to where you’ve found my site, I’d really appreciate it!! Leave me a comment, and let me know where you’ve found the site from. Additionally, if you’ve found the link posted somewhere, you may like to know that this blog has another domain name (which I’ll be moving the blog completely to soon): www.puppetsinmelbourne.com.au
Please update any bookmarks you might have; the above address sends you right to this blog, bypassing the blah blah post about ‘the publication previously known as The Prompt Copy’… In other words, it’s just easier to go to the .com.au domain. Be sure that new, more puppet-related stuff, will be added later on today, and continuing on every day of the week.
…. Now for some basic updates. Ok, so I got my dates mixed up. Sunday (yesterday, or tonight, since I’m writing this for tomorrow) was the wedding.
Recap: Friday, I go to the shops, buy some materials for puppet building, go to Target to get a cardigan to wear to the wedding… back out of the carparking space, and am turning out towards the right. I completely misjudge the margin of the column, at the right back end of the spot. I severely misjudge, and the right front bumper is completely squashed. The worst of it is that I knew that I was going to damage the car and somehow didn’t stop. No damage to me, or anyone else, luckily, but you can see why on Saturday I had said that I was so upset. It’s really a lot of damage to the car. (I’ve scratched the car before doing something similar - a right angle turn to get out of a carpark into a pole - but this was really bad. This is my mum’s car, so even worse)
Anyway, Saturday, I had thought we had to go to the wedding. It came about 3pm before I realised we didn’t, and spent much of the day working on a puppet build for my film commission.
So Sunday comes, and I’m having a bad day… nothing new there. The wedding was good - Jewish wedding, for a cousin, which somewhat says it all. The reception though, was novel.
My cousin rented out a space in the same building as JC Westend and Scenic Studios, two companies which any Melbourne theatre student/pro would know about; as well as other, smaller theatre companies. More to the point, the place, which is basically a warehouse done up, looks like it was decorated by a set designer. (Not an insult, it just had that feel) It was sort of medieval/Louis XIV, although personally, I thought the space lacked in coloured lighting. - Beside the point, which is that I’ve never been to either companies, or been involved with them. And it’s amazing how close you can be to feeling like you’re in your own home turf, even if you’ve never met anyone from the companies, (the building that houses these places is pretty much two blocks worth of a warehouse and so it is ‘turf’ in its own way), and yet feeling self-consciously wall-flowery at a wedding, even if it is your cousin’s.
Anyway, I’ve eaten too much - I didn’t have anything to eat at all until after the wedding itself, which was 5pm (that I ate). Then, lots of food - nibblies at the reception, seafood entrees, chicken and salad (vegetable AND fruit salad in one!) for mains, two desserts (chocolate pudding and sorbet, which my mum couldn’t eat), and some bikkies. Combine that with loud music, soft drink, and a bad night’s sleep… Headache!
I’ve got a whole bunch of posts somewhat ready to go, so tomorrow I’ll pick one and publish it. Good news - I have holidays starting on Fri, for two weeks, which means less ad-hock posting, and more puppetry goodness! (That sounds like a great slogan!) It also means that there’s no more weddings to go to - thank god - and life can go back to a more normal schedule. Well, maybe once the car’s fixed… I’ve got to get some sleep now. 1.23am and I’ve got work tomorrow morning.
