23 Dec 2007 Apologies
After three very frustrating days, I finally have my blog back!
On Thursday morning, I got to work only to discover my web hits were dismally low. I logged on to my site, and figured out why.
The blog was only half appearing, if at all. Some pages showed the navigational menu, other pages didn’t, loading times were long, and some images appeared corrupted. Access to the backend was impossible, with only half of the blog editor showing, and none of the publish buttons available. I thought that the blog had been hacked, but couldn’t find any evidence of it. Additionally, I discovered that Firefox loads the site, but IE users wouldn’t have seen the blog at all - the majority of visitors I’m sure. My stats went from 300+ hits per day to less than 10 per day.
I quickly did a search on the b2evolution’s (the name of the blog program I use) forums, but couldn’t find anything helpful. I got on to my web host, asking them to upload a backup of my site, thinking that at the very least I could get rid of any fraudulent files.
Luckily, I seem to have prompted an investigation on my web host’s side, and they discovered an issue with the server my site’s hosted on. They’ve spent the last couple of days migrating all their info from this server to another, newer and better one.
Which is why there’s been no updates. I felt so lost without my access to the blog - note, I could access my hosting info, but not make any updates to the blog system itself.
Good news is that today I spent some time working on the store - offline of course - and getting some building done on my film commission. I’m happy with what I accomplished today on the store, even if I did leave it partially in problem mode; the commission is slowing, because today’s my first day of holidays… and I’m exhausted.
Anyway, I’m going to sleep now… perhaps tomorrow I can add something new to the FAQ… something big to make up for the missing days! (Yay! Finally back online!… I should add, my web host is fantastic. They rarely have problems, but when they do, it seems they spend 24/7 fixing it, and are amazingly good at getting the word out about what’s happening. If you ever need a web host, I can highly recommend Web Hosts Australia. I have nothing but praise for their excellent customer service!)
