14 Jan 2008 Trouble brewing
I spent most of the weekend working on the puppet store - getting more of the transfer to the new domain happening, as well as trying to figure out why oh why my buy-me button doesn’t want to work. This is six ways from anything I actually understand, and the coding language is beyond me. Add that to the fact that for over a week I’ve been searching forums for answers and come up with nothing, and the frustration is starting to peak.
Usually I can pick up the language after a while, using a bit of trial and error, learning from tutorials, and reading from other people’s mistakes. But the particular way I’ve set up the store is unique, meaning not many other people have come across this problem before; and given that I’m getting hints from someone else who has a similar store, and that even that isn’t helping… well, anyway, two weeks to launch and I’m stuck. Hopefully I’ll get it soon - if not, I’ll be getting in some expert help. Which I don’t want to do, because I like the challenge of learning new skills.
See, I’m using a flash program to create my store - for reasons you’ll see very soon (I hope) - and I’ve learned enough to do something else with it too, and get my money’s worth on buying this program. I’m going to redo the gallery - it currently links off to my collections at collectZing.com - so that there’s a flash image gallery, much like the Flickr widgets you see around the place. But because I can design it and host it myself, there’s not going to be Flickr/whatever ads, it’s going to be easy to use and update, and best of all, it will showcase all of my puppets the way I want them to be seen.
…But that’s all going to happen once I finish the store. Fingers crossed.
I really want to get back to normal puppetry blogging, but the transfer is going to take me a few more days to sort out. Once that’s done, it should mean that I can stop posting to both blogs and just redirect the old one to the new.
