Bday blues

It’s my 26th bday today, and I’m trying to avoid doing anything. I’m not one for superstition, but every year on my bday, there’s a pretty good chance something will go wrong.

Let’s recount:

24th bday, wreck mum’s car by forgetting to remove hand brake, travel on freeway at 100kms with it on

17th bday, choice between going to doctor’s or going to school swimming, chose doctor’s, also had school drama rehearsals with  teachers

16th bday, went to school swimming (I reckon someone out there did it on purpose, as my younger sister also ended up having school swimming on her bday, which was almost exactly one month after mine), spent most of time minding my friend’s bags while they went off having water fights

… Ok, I don’t remember them all, but nine times out of ten, they were bad. Anyway, I’m avoiding doing anything particularly exciting for just that reason: I don’t get disappointed at the end of the day. I celebrated yesterday by going to the shops - just some basic food/reading shopping, which doesn’t sound exciting, but when you consider I’m also unemployed and about to spend several thousand going to UNIMA 2008 (a conference for which UPDATE 30 July 2009: the site is no longer available), it’s a bit of a big deal to have a nice lunch… With that done, I can relax today and hope that tomorrow comes quickly and without anything bad.

And in the meantime, I’ve added a new link to the site. I have to say, I haven’t really been motivated of late, partly tiredness, partly getting used to not being at work, and partly because I haven’t had a real holiday - when not involving projects and/or preparations for a show -  for over a year. Hopefully soon I can get motivated enough to finish my new puppet, which should be good to use for the next icon… Oh yeah, and in between trying to remind myself that my CV is solid enough to warrant another arts job - even though no one seems to be interested in hiring me at the moment - and that calling my temp agencies to do something completely menial, boring and low-paid, is not in fact, a bad thing.

Ah, my birthdays never fail to sadden me… :-/
