3 Mar 2008 Gallery now online
UPDATE: This post no longer reflects the status of the Gallery page on my site
I have updated the gallery link at the top of the site… and it goes to my very own Flash animation, which allows you to view a range of different puppets, shows, and images of my work. It even has a few surprises thrown in along the way!
The best thing about it is that I did it all on my own - perhaps with a few helpful hints from some online forums - using that Flash program I bought for the puppet generator. It wasn’t overly expensive, but I didn’t want it to go to waste. I liked the idea of redoing the gallery so that it keeps you on the Puppets in Melbourne website, but didn’t want something boring, like good old Flickr widgets… So I made the gallery over the last week. It was very time consuming, mainly because there were a lot of photos, a lot of copying and pasting, and a lot of me forgetting to do something/not do something. I’m sure there’s an image or text somewhere that I’ve stuffed up…
Anyway, I’m very happy with the results, and the best thing is that I can add to it over time very easily. Check it out - you can view all the photos from City Head in one place, instead of scrolling through blog posts. There’s pics of my company’s debut show; pics of the puppet icons, which I’ll obviously extend later on; examples of experimental puppets and images from the puppet tutorials I’ve provided on this blog; and images of commissions and puppets made for the online store.
It’s also good to note: the animation is really designed for a big screen - somewhat the size of an average laptop screen - and the smaller version embedded into the site just isn’t as good as the larger version. Do be sure to use the link, and open up the full screen version. It’s worth it just to see better quality images, and no squinting to read the text. I wanted it to be able to fill your entire screen, not just your browser, but couldn’t work it out… or rather, couldn’t be bothered. Filling the browser is enough.
Anyway, enjoy - go visit the new Puppets in Melbourne Gallery! (And don’t forget to fill out those surveys! I’ve already got plans in the works for some new customisations based on some of the responses!!! Add your two cents!!!)
