Or should that be puppet detective?
Tuesday night.. or rather, Wednesday morning, I spent a few hours online making an amazingly coincidental discovery/bit of detective work. I had come across what appeared to be a fraudulent copy of Project Puppet. The coincidental part is that I was checking my web stats, got curious about where my site would appear in the Google results for ‘sock puppet pattern’, and while viewing Google, came across an interestingly titled site. I clicked on it, and lo and behold, up came this PP copy!
So I spent a few hours hunting down some info about what it was, etc. and quickly notified the guys at PP who checked out what’s happened. Apparently it was just a mistake with their hosting company and a duplicate site was created out of old files.
I’m just glad I happened to click the right link at the right time; Google results change every day according to how popular a site is, and even adding the letter ’s’ to the end of that search term would have given completely different list of sites. So it’s one of those things where the odds are probably a zillion to one that I would have a whim to click a link to a site that I would both recognise and recognise as a copy.
Maybe I should become a detective
