3 Oct 2008 Three printers
and none of them work… Sort of.
My dad recently replaced his printer, the old one which was connected to the wireless home network. But it was not colouring the ink properly. When he replaced it, he didn’t connect it to the network… And of course, the only hole in the printer is for an internet cable…
Second printer: half a fax machine. Has a USB port in it. Despite there being a ridiculous amount of cables lying around… no USB to USB cables. Just ones that have USB to funny looking plugs which definitely don’t fit in either the fax/printer or my computer. That’s also supposedly connected to the network…
Neither of these printers are installed on my computer, but I can’t instal either of them without the USB plug.
I finally figure out how to get the driver installed for the first, only to discover the supposed printer network doesn’t even exist. I could have installed the printer via the network of course, but since it doesn’t seem to exist…
Third printer: doesn’t have black ink, and won’t print without it (it’s a colour printer). No cartridges left in the house. They cost $40. Eventually give up trying to figure out the other two printers, cave in and buy one at 8.30pm.
Do my printing. Head back to my room to finish what I was doing (photoshopping), only to discover that Paint Shop Pro now won’t do print previews and crashes.
Uninstall. Reinstall. Crashes. Uninstall. Reinstall… Crashes.
The only other photo/paint program I have on my computer resizes images in print preview, so I can’t tell whether or not my pics come out sized correctly. Unless of course, I go and waste paper and print them out… again.
Anyway, suffice to say that the website is still not finished yet and it will more than likely be done next week if I
a) ever get a computer that works instead of having a heart attack every time I do something
b) am relaxed enough to do it
c) not pissed off with technology altogether
… Fuck it, don’t expect anything. I’ve wasted a whole day just trying to print. Suffice to say I can’t do much of anything until I get a new computer. Luckily, my dad’s coming home tomorrow and I can bug him to help me buy one. … And of course, get him to reconnect all the printers XX(
It’s a pity, because there’s like half a day’s work to get done, and I’m itching to stop fidding around with computers and get some puppets done. I’ve been halfway through a shadow puppet screen for about two weeks now, written a script but not made the puppets for it, and had about five billion other things on my to do list to finish.
