Ok, best laid plans and all… This new shadow puppet technique is giving me problems. You’ll see why tomorrow. I overestimated the number of parts I could reasonably make move/manipulate easily. I had to change part of the design and remake some of it. That didn’t take too long, but I’m now finding that my lamp that I’ve been working with is way too bright for this particular puppet, and is washing out much of the details. I’ve spent the past four or so hours practicing the movement, seeing how the puppet works, how best to show it off, and testing it under the light. I did have some videos of it, but on looking at them, I can see I need to redo the video because the puppet simply disappears in the brightness of the light. (This is also definitely not a puppet for the amateur. It’s quite tricky to operate, but only because you have to operate it upside down! Gravity makes the puppet top heavy, and unfortunately, the design requires the rods to both be at the bottom)
So yeah, you’re going to have to wait another day on that… The good news that it is worth the wait. Even with the crappy videos I just shot, the new technique works really well and when you see it you’ll understand all.
It’s almost 5am and I haven’t been to sleep yet, so I’ll be posting that stuff about the Brisbane festival later on in the day. If I don’t get the video done tonight, don’t panic, I’ve got the book review all lined up.
(Oh yeah, and the blog title is a total hint of what the puppet is of
)
