7 Jan 2009 A 2009 plan
As usual my other activities have dragged me away from finishing projects here. This time it’s a little bit of an exchange; remember The Bump In Project from last year? Well, I wanted to continue offering support to the participants, and one of them has asked me to help them set up their own site. (I did so for her on the back of my thepromptcopy.com domain, but now I’m selling the domain to save money, so had to remove it).
Anyway, the benefit of my web hosting is that I’m currently on a ‘reseller’ account, which means I can sell my web hosting on to other people. I’m currently hosting my own two sites, plus my dad’s. So I’ve offered that for a small monthly fee to help pay my hosting bills, I would host her site; and she pays for the domain name. This means that she also gets to use my limited web experience/knowledge for free, and saves money in the long run. It works well for both of us; I get help paying the bills, and she gets some financial and moral support. So that’s what I’ve been doing last week - setting up her site, trying to get the design and text in place, and so on. Hopefully I can finish it in the next few days; I’ll be posting a link to it when it’s ready to go.
So yeah, my new years has been pretty much full up on doing work and trying to ignore my neighbours’ "doof doof" music. Not that I’m complaining about the work - just isn’t much of a celebratory period. I actually hate this time of year. But I hope you all had a wonderful new year.
My decision to use a December plan was a good idea. Granted the last two weeks I haven’t really stuck with it - mainly because I find it hard to do much of anything this time of year - but I think it’s a good idea to keep going over the next year. Plus it makes it easier for me to focus on a few projects at a time, instead of reeling back and forth from idea to idea.
So here’s a sort of yearlong plan (red = products, blue = site work, green = classes). Main goals: have three sets of classes which I can run year round; update and continue making and selling products; organise for attending the puppetry festival in the US; continue work on the site… Maybe at some point it would be nice to you know, actually get a job
. Also, this plan is a work in progress, since much of the second part of the year is just too far away for me to plan for at the moment. Suffice to say my biggest goal is to have classes and to be selling at craft markets by the end of the year.
