Starting today I’m posting short intros to the history of puppets. Hopefully this will also extend the intros to each puppet type, as the history and development of puppets change the way those puppets work over time (ie. did you know that the glove puppet actually comes from a marionette? I never would have guessed that!)

In the future I also hope to create a short catalogue of famous Australian puppets, like Mr Squiggle, Agro, and others. That’s going to be a good one to do, cause there’s a lot of quite great stuff out there that should be talked about on this site.

While I’m here, a big thank you to those people who have donated money to my PNF 09 Fund already! I spent some time on the weekend filling out registration and booking my accommodation: I’ve also made some (at the moment sketchy) plans to do a train trip to Washington DC and do some sightseeing while I’m in the neighbourhood. I thought a train would be a nice way to travel instead of a plane.
