9 Mar 2009 Two new shadow puppets for sale!
Please note: these are no longer available to buy. Please check my shop for more puppets.
I am now selling two new shadow puppets: a turtle and a merman. The merman matches my mermaid in design - some may think they are both mermaids, but actually if you look at the merman closely, you’ll notice a certain lack of cleavage as well as an adam’s apple. (So :lalala: to my mum who got confused!)
The turtle is a really nice design that I came up with around my birthday thanks to a trip to the paper section of Borders. I found a really good selection of transparent papers, one of which matched perfectly an idea I had for a turtle. Whilst the design is simple, operation is a little tricky: it has four rods! Ok, four rods equals two in each hand, which isn’t hard, but trying to get the correct distance to hold each rod was tough. Particularly as I had pretty much mashed up my rods trying to attach them (a mistake on my part of not putting the holes for the rods in the correct place) and they were a little bent out of shape. A little practice and I got it though. It’s also a pity that I don’t have a larger screen yet, because the turtle looks really fantastic doing long slow sweeping movements.
But what was really tricky: getting the merman to ‘ride’ the turtle for my video below. Not as easy as it sounds, but surprisingly after a lot of fiddling and yelling at my rods, I got about six or seven (good) takes before my camera’s battery died.
Enjoy!
