31 Mar 2009 I'm stuck
A few days ago I had a brilliant idea for an article to write on puppetry, and instead of immediately putting it in ‘draft’ in the backend of my blog (where I keep reminders and ideas), I thought, "ah, I’ll remember it", and went to do something else. It was an idea based on a google search, and I had the search kept on my browser in a stack of tabs from web stats and thought I’d remember the idea when I came across the tab. Except, of course, I didn’t. So now I have no idea what the concept was, except that it was related to muppets. I’ve been trying to recall it, because it was a particularly good topic and not one often talked about. … It’s driving me up the wall that I can’t remember it, and it serves me right for not writing it down in the first place.
Anywho, I’m trying desperately to catch up on my moppet pattern. If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll have seen my Tweets about it. I got stuck on the neck, trying to work in three dimensions across the width/diameter of the neck, in a very short length. (That is, the width of the head, the width of the neck of the body and the width of the bottom of the body) and my original method of making the neck pattern just didn’t want to work with the contrasting dimensions of this build. I’ve been fuming over it for a couple of days, and each time making one step forward and taking two back. I gave up at lunch and went and watched a movie for a bit, hoping that by the time I calmed down I could try again. Luckily I had a quick flash of an idea, and within an hour or so had solved most of the problems with the pattern. I can now move on to making the neck itself, which is good, because I’m sorely behind in sending it out to my testers.
I’m really not planning on doing a lot of big posts this week, as I have to work on that, as well as prepare shadow puppet patterns, my screen, and some rods, for my next puppet class. This means making up a few new patterns - including one which I’ll be making into a freebie here - adding new sections to my screen to make it larger, and making up several batches of rods.
Once the next section of the pattern is sent out and preparations are finished for the class, I’ll get started on the marionette video I promised. There’s also a few more things up my sleeve… as always
If I can just remember that idea… I know you’d have enjoyed it… something about muppets….
