15 May 2009 Strawberry Fish shadow puppet now on sale!
This turned out so much better than I had hoped. I love the fantasy film that I use in my mermaid/merman puppets so much, I just had to use it again in a different colour. And when I started planning on doing an underwater theme, the first thing I thought of was to make a fish puppet using the film. I picked out a great colour (strawberry, duh!), and the whole puppet is made just using this film. Yeah, I could have gone with the cheaper option of cellophane, but when you see the puppet in the light, you’ll understand why I went with the fantasy film instead. You can buy the puppet here. The video is at the bottom of this post.
Sad to say, but the video quality was excellent on my computer, but half the detail of the fins and tail is lost when uploaded to Youtube. This is a real pity, because the fish is made in such a way to give the puppet ‘layering’ details. If you watch the video full screen you can see them better; of course, that greatly reduces the quality of the video-viewing over all
I’m really annoyed, because the puppet just looks ten times better on my computer, and the colour and vibrancy of the puppet has made it my new favourite.
This video also previews my latest greatest invention: the light, flat, completely portable and repairable screen. This is an idea invented in case I needed to take a screen with me to the US for the exhibition. I mentioned a few days ago that I’m tempted to make it into either a product or a tutorial; at this stage, I’m not sure how easily this will fit into a postage pack, but it is small enough that it might just work. Either way, this is a very cool screen; it took me about 30 minutes to make.
