26 Oct 2009 Breaking the bank
Well, I spent most of yesterday dealing with the - somewhat obvious after the fact - discovery that the recent hit increase has also killed my bandwidth. Not only did I hit it, I got 7GB over. That meant an overcharge of $20 for this month. But seeing as how I was also a week away from the end of the month, when bandwidth turns over, I also had to face the fact that I needed to upgrade my hosting plan. This is like the first time I’ve needed to do so in about a year or more.
The bad news is it’s also breaking the bank. The upgrade will cost 2.8 times as much (XX() per month as before. So as you can tell this is pretty a rather large hole in my - miniscule - bank account. Drastic measures will have to be taken to ensure this increase will return some profits. Or at least some break-evens.
I’m probably going to take a few days or even most of the week to let my stats cool down a bit (and not post updates that is), because even with this upgrade I’m cutting it fine with my bandwidth and have about 12% left to get me through the week.
Sigh… There’s always a good news/bad news thing with this site. Stats being up should promote my products more; but hardly anyone buys. Proof of the pudding that a high google rank doesn’t necessarily bring in the dough.
This is confirming the issues of a need to change the learn online stuff, and I’m even more convinced that micropayments on tutorials is the best way forward. I’m also going to have to cement the other ideas for improving income using this site as an impetus.
