15 Feb 2010 Repeating the curve
So this morning I woke up thinking "yes, I’ve only got to upload the new pattern and send out some emails, and I’ll have everything done before I go to bed". Why, oh why, do I always assume this will be done quickly?
Things started off well, but about halfway through the day I noticed a peculiar thing missing from the re-uploaded Round Head pattern that I fixed last week. On the small bite-sized parts, I’d left off the copyright information and disclaimer XX(. So I’ve just spent the other half of the day fixing everything. And now I’m about two hours past where I was up to before, with still no sign of being done before the end of tomorrow even.
Frustratingly, things got worse, as I noticed a lot of editing errors; meaning saving and resaving the pdf files (my computer seems to hate files larger than a few MBs), with each part of the pattern taking about 1/2 hour to load onto Lulu. (Hmm, five files for the Round Head, seven for the new one… is 6 hours, not including all the time taken to edit, type and save!)
Anyway, I’m ploughing on in the hopes that I can finish before dawn, at which point I’ll have done all this messy stuff and can spend the rest of the week doing what I actually want to do. And at this stage, none of that involves pdf files
… In other news, I’ve been having a bit of a chat with Fiona, my former employer, about getting some advice on how to move things forward in terms of making the site pay for itself. She’s given me some good food for thought, and encouragingly, is making me more certain that my earlier decision is the right way to go. Even better, I’ve had about 5 sales of the Round Head pattern in about a week, which is about what I’d average per month. So moving the pattern to the Learn page seems to be a definite good thing so far; it’s making me wonder if I should also move over the shadow puppet patterns, but I’m unsure about that at this stage. We’ll see how things go with the moppet ones first.
