UNIMA 2012 is coming...
If you missed out on this year’s big puppetry conference, UNIMA 2008 (UPDATE 30 July 2009: the site is no longer available), you may want to think about going to UNIMA 2012. The event, which is the international puppetry conference to go to, is being held in China in four years. For anyone who is interested, I managed to pick up a brochure for it and have posted images of the brochure on my Flickr page. There’s heaps of information in there, from accommodation and eating, to maps of local historical and cultural tourist stops, a little about China, and of course, stuff about the actual conference. The images on Flickr are pretty much in order of how they are in the brochure, all except the one at the end, which should be in the middle (it won’t play nice!).
There is a good news/bad news thing about this. The UNIMA 2012 conference is taking place in Sichuan, the area most affected by the recent earthquake. Gary Friedman has been contacting the Chinese organising committee, and he’s reported that they are looking for puppeteers to help with a big puppet project - namely to help affected children with a counselling puppetry event.
