Animatronics in France, England and Beijing
Hilary Talbot’s been posting some great stuff about animatronics lately. The first is a great insight into The Sultan’s Elephant, a lifesize animatronic that people the world over have gotten excited about, which Hilary actually visited in France. In the same venue there were all sorts of other great animatronic things, with sculptures and ride-able puppets. The second is a good informative post about a giant animatronic girl presented at the Beijing Olympics; she’s also linked to a site which has behind-the-scenes stuff, a video of a giant terracotta warrior puppet, and more. And the third is about an animatronic spider (the theme here is that all of the puppets seem to be inspired by similar concepts, which is giant puppetry), again with plenty of links and photos to get your puppet-senses tingling (sorry, couldn’t help that slip into Spiderman pun). How creepy is that?! ![]()
