Puppets in Melbourne

Taiwanese puppetry

Kelvin has been posting some fantastic stuff about Taiwanese puppets. I won’t sum it up for you too much, because he explains it all so much better than I could; but basically, he first gives us an excellent intro (with videos) of Taiwanese puppets; and this on combining animation and live puppetry together. If you like what you see at the second link, Andrew from PuppetVision has found some more.

Unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance to review all of it, but have seen the first video at the first link, and it’s pretty amazing. You would think that glove puppets can’t do complex things, but the Taiwanese manage to get all sorts of intricate movements out of them. Check it out below, and then head to Kelvin’s site to watch the rest. I guarantee it’s worth the time.
