More live puppetry workshops

Andrew from PuppetVision - who also runs Puppet Building.com - is presenting a nine week online workshop starting very soon (June 2009!). He’s going to take you through a range of puppet building techniques (mainly focusing on muppet-type puppet methodology), with live puppetry workshops, pdfs to download, text-based forums to participate in, and much more. There is no announcement of how much it costs yet, but Andrew has mentioned that there will be a fee (about $90) of some sort. There are plans for future workshops and a larger range of online resources from Andrew. More information about it and how to take part is given here. UPDATE: Andrew cancelled the course for personal reasons. (You can also find a thread on Puppets and Stuff where you can read/ask questions about the workshops)

Along with Daryl/Stiqpuppets from Puppets and Stuff on BlogTV (discussed more here), you can also find Stacey Gordon making her wildly weird and wonderful finger puppets. I haven’t watched her shows yet, but will be checking in at some point. Her work is awesome! And also getting into the act is the moderator from P&S, Shawn Sorrell. He’s been showcasing a lot of marionette making things, including working with clay; he also takes over for Daryl occasionally.

And finally, we come to the most recent of live puppetry streaming: Hoggworks Studios. If you’re following him on Twitter you’ll have discovered he just started doing this in the last week or so. Brian is from the famous DotBoom episodes, as well as Ask Palpatine.

On a more personal note: a few weeks ago I met an old friend and showmate from a few years ago. He asked me if I was doing any shows and I said no. In fact, I haven’t worked on a show for two years now. Despite loathing TV/film roles and preferring live performance, I’m finding as an independent and sole artist that working/performing online is ten times easier and so much more freeing. There’s something great about going online just to chat with other puppet makers from around the world, and I find myself joining a live show on BlogTV when I’m at my workshop desk and building. I think this little technology revolution will help all of us stay inspired, curious and having fun…. And keep watching this space for news about how I’m getting into the live workshops too!

Tip of the rod to PuppetVision and to Puppet Builder for simultaneously rounding things up
