Ronnie Burkett documentaries

While discussing my interview with Ronnie Burkett at Puppets and Stuff, someone lamented how few online resources there are on his work. We’d all love to see more than just a couple of Youtube videos and his papier mache recipe… there’s also his agent’s website (linked above) and a bare-bones Facebook account. And as it happened, last week I discovered two excellent additions for any admirer of his work.

First, Puppeteers of America have in their DVD library three items of interest: a doco on Tinka’s New Dress; a promo video, Old Friends; and A Line of Balance. The DVD is only available to POA members of course (anyone in the world can obtain a membership there, although, of course, it costs money; along with a lending fee of $20 USD).

You may be wondering what that third item is… and this brings me to my second link. A Line of Balance is a 1992 doco about RB’s show Awful Manor. It takes you behind-the-scenes from conception to opening night, with scenes from the performance too. It’s available to purchase from Film West, a Canadian company, in both VHS and DVD. (It looks like Canadian and USA format) Also, be warned, their site is slow to load; it appears the site is made up of very large images… sigh. I wouldn’t link to them at all, but for the rareness of the doco.
