How to make a muppet-type puppet: the Round Head Foam Puppet Pattern
As part of my new year’s resolution to separate out my shop from my ‘blog’ (see here), I’m doing a little rearranging. The moppet patterns are going to be moved away from the ’shop’ area, and into the tutorials area. (If you’re new here, heck just skip the explanation and head down to the good stuff)
Make this puppet as part of an online course in March 2010! More info at www.schoolofpuppetry.com.au!
Best of all, the first part of the pattern is available for FREE (a preview of the first part can be found here).
Coming soon, I’m going to be doing live video tutorials using the two moppet patterns I’ve made, plus adding more videos as accompaniments; more info to come. In the meantime, you can find all of the links to the pattern below. There are three options: download the complete pattern; download the pattern in smaller, cheaper chunks (see below), or to wait until next week when this pattern, and another one, will be offered in a CD pack.
This pattern is great for those of you who have The Foam Book, but wish it came with patterns! With easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions, plenty of pictures, and a set of patterns, you too can make a professional-quality foam puppet. You can use the patterns to make humans, monsters or animals!
Because there’s a lot of info about this pattern (pics, links, etc.) I’ve split everything up into pages. Page 2: Download the pattern. Page 3: Reviews of the pattern. Page 4: Examples and video.
What are muppet-type puppets? Even though materials and tools are discussed in the pattern, you may want to check out this article too. I learned to make these puppets using The Foam Book: check out my review here. More patterns can be found here. How to fit a mouth into a puppet is discussed here. Where can I buy Avenue Q puppets? Find out why there are no Sesame St/Muppet patterns. What’s the difference between a muppet and a puppet?
