In 2009 I was contacted by a previous customer who wished to purchase some shadow puppets. A discussion ensued and it was decided that custom designs were required. On behalf of the Picnic Point High School (NSW) I provided 7 shadow puppets; 3 turtles and 4 fish. The turtles were based on my original design and the fish were based on a pattern (currently unavailable) I sold. Using methods I’d previously invented, all were made using acrylic neon paints on white cardboard. This allowed the puppets to glow under blacklight conditions, as requested by the client.
Each puppet was roughly 70cm (27.5 inches) in size, as the puppets had to be visible for an audience of 500. However students choose to use their hands to operate the puppets instead of the rods provided. Either way, the client was very pleased with the outcome and it sounds as though the students had a ball. More info about the commission can be found here.
